Biography
Born in London in 1966, Anthony Moman is a contemporary British-Italian artist who lives and maintains his primary studio in Lucca, Italy. His diverse professional background—spanning formal studies in art and design followed by successful careers in advertising, real estate, and financial markets—infuses his creative practice with a unique, deeply analytical perspective on modern consumer behavior and societal structures.
Disciplined in both painting and sculpture, Moman commands an evolving visual style unified by a sharp, ironic, and barbed social commentary. He specializes in transforming unconventional, industrial, and traditionally unloved materials into alluring, highly coveted objects of desire. By elevating the ordinary and overlooked, Moman creates a tension between the immediate aesthetic appeal of his work and the critical messages embedded within.
A central pillar of his portfolio is his architectural exploration of synergy—derived from the Greek synergos, meaning “working together.” This philosophical concept is perfectly crystallized in his acclaimed syringe sculptures. Here, individual medical syringes metamorphose into entirely new, cohesive forms with minimal structural interference, proving that the whole can become infinitely greater than the sum of its parts. Beyond syringes, his tactile, multi-faceted vocabulary regularly incorporates challenging media such as barbed wire, broken glass, and recycled tissue paper.
In his latest sculptural series, “Melted Dreams,” Moman draws profound inspiration from classical Greece and the sacred imagery of Renaissance religious icons. Reimagining these timeless, monumental archetypes through contemporary, industrial materials—including expansion foam, resin, hot gun glue, and steel wire—he directly confronts issues of tech-dependency, climate change, and hyper-consumerism. The resulting works establish a striking dialogue between historical beauty and contemporary decay, capturing a society caught between its aspirations and its vulnerabilities.
Moman’s work is celebrated globally and is held in the permanent collections of international museums, as well as prestigious private and corporate collections worldwide.
